Biography

Alycia was born in Brooklyn, NY, and grew up in New Jersey. She completed her undergraduate degree in neuroscience at Brown University in 2001. As a graduate student at the University of California, San Diego, she studied variations in chromosome number in the developing brain, and received her PhD in Neuroscience in 2010. Immediately following graduate school, Alycia began her administrative career in Graduate Recruitment and Diversity Initiatives at the University of Rhode Island. Her responsibilities include planning and implementing recruitment initiatives that will attract and provide support for a diverse population of graduate students, advising faculty and staff on best practices in recruitment, collecting and analyzing data on graduate admissions and enrollment, and making recommendations to improve Graduate School policy. In 2011, she took on an additional role with the recently established Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program (INP) at URI, which offers MS and PhD degrees, as well as post-baccalaureate certificates. Alycia provides leadership at all levels including instruction, curricular affairs, admissions, advising, and managing the activities of the Executive Committee that oversees the program. You can read more about her career transition here and here. She also tweeted about her work as the first curator for @neurotweeps.

Personal Interests

If you see me walking around campus with my earbuds in, I’m probably listening to my favorite podcasts such as Who? Weekly, Call Your Girlfriend, or Still Processing.  My family and I like to go whichever beach is the least crowded, bike on the South County bike path, or hiking places like Trustom Pond and Black Point. Cooking and yoga are also essentials parts of my self-care routine.
