Lena Weiss (MAMA) conducts surveys along the North Shore of Massachusetts

This summer (2014), Lena Weiss has been conducting surveys of recreational fishermen along the North Shore of Massachusetts to better understand why they participate (or not) in volunteer fish tagging programs.  Through her field work, Lena has had the opportunity to talk with many fishermen about what they think about fish tagging, science and the environment.  Since engaging fishermen in collecting data is often a useful and sometimes necessary part of fisheries research, Lena’s findings will provide valuable information to scientists and managers about how to approach, recruit, and engage the public in these types of activities.
