On the road with Prof. Seth Macinko

On the road with Prof. Seth Macinko

In January, Prof. Macinko attended the annual Alaska Marine Science Symposium In Anchorage  as part of his duties on the Science Panel of the North Pacific Research Board (NPRB). This year, there was a special workshop focused on how the NPRB can increase the social science content of its research portfolio. In February, he attended the February meeting of the North Pacific Fishery Management Council (in Seattle) where he sits on the Council’s Scientific and Statistical Committee. Next, he attended the Ocean Sciences Meeting where the NPRB was hosting a special session to present the culmination of seven years of research under the innovative Bering Sea Integrated Ecosystem Research Program (BSIERP). Early in the founding of the BSIERP program the NPRB formed a Science Advisory Group to give the NPRB feedback on the BSIERP project and Dr. Macinko is the chair of the Science Advisory Group. The Ocean Sciences Meeting was held in Honolulu (somebody had to go….). Over Spring Break, he was invited to give two workshops to the staff at Slow Food International in Bra, Italy on the subject of Ocean Grabbing. While at Slow Food, he attended the commencement ceremony for the University of Gastronomic Sciences (in nearby Pollenza) which included addresses by Nobel laureate Dario Fo and Slow Food founder Carlo Petrini.
