The URI Summer Music Academy: String Camp will be hosted at the University of Rhode Island Kingston campus and is open to all students of orchestral bowed string instruments entering grades 5-12. Students will participate in a variety of high-quality music courses, including string orchestra, small chamber ensembles, music history and theory classes, interactive workshops, concerts, activities, and guest performances.
Dates: Monday, July 8- Saturday, July 13, 2024
Time: 9:00am- 5:00pm daily (Monday morning check-in starting at 8:30am)
Lunch: Lunch is provided in URI’s dining hall, offering a variety of options. Please notify staff of any food allergies.
Camp Locations: URI Music Annex (95 Upper College Road) and URI White Hall (39 Butterfield Rd, Kingston, RI 02881)
Application: A $100 non-refundable application fee/deposit is due with the initial application and must be received by Monday, June 17, 2024.
Tuition: $900.00
Children of NAfME members receive a $50 discount. Must show proof of active membership on the registration page.
Families with multiple siblings will receive a $50 discount per sibling. Only one type of discount may apply per family.
Financial aid is available to those who qualify. Please complete the financial aid documents and return to us by Wednesday, May 29, 2024.

Audition Information:
Our Placement Audition Requirements are downloadable here. Auditions are challenging, but they are an important component of a musician’s life. Please note that your placement audition is only meant to help assign you to the appropriate string orchestra, your seating within the orchestra, and to be considered for placement into a chamber ensemble (for those that qualify). Please take the audition seriously and perform your best. The auditions must be a video – please place the camera so that we can see you, your instrument, and your hands/movement clearly.
You are allowed to take as many “takes” as you wish and can submit your best performance to us via YouTube. You are allowed to upload separate video links for the scale requirement and solo selections. Your audition should be submitted via an “unlisted” YouTube video. Please note that if you list your video as “private”, we will not be able to see it. You may also submit this video to us in Google Drive or Dropbox but be sure that we will have access to it!
All auditions should be emailed or shared to uristringcamp@gmail.com no later than Monday, June 17th.
Private Lessons:
Students may request a private lesson with one of our string faculty! You will have the opportunity to register for a private lesson on the registration site. Rates for private lessons are $45 for a 30-minute lesson and $75 for a 60-minute lesson.
