The 13th Annual International Nonviolence Summer Institute came to a close on Friday, June 13, 2014. This two-week Training of Trainers for Level I Certification in Kingian Nonviolence and Conflict Reconciliation and a one-week advanced training for Level II Certification was a stellar event that included participants from 16 countries and 12 states. It was the largest group ever, and filling with extraordinary people committed to nonviolence. These are the people who will be peacemakers and world changers as they return to their home countries and communities in the US and abroad. The days were filled with lively discussions, interactive small group activities, cooperative learning, facilitation training exercises, readings of Dr. King, a Beloved Community Supper with guests from the local community, presentations by participants about their work and organizations, a book reading and talk by Dr. Bernard LaFayette, Jr. and Kay Johnson on their new book In Peace and Freedom, pertinent films of the civil rights movements, music and performances of native cultures. Many reported that they had transformational experiences while here and we all enjoyed meeting people from cultures around the world as we learned from each other.
Many thanks to all who journeyed from far and near to join in our nonviolence training and for giving such earnest and honest effort to learning deeply about Dr. King, the Principles and Steps of Nonviolence and Conflict Reconciliation, and exploring how we can apply those ideas to our own lives and our work.
We believe that we are connected forever and will hopefully stay in touch with each other to continue the amazing Beloved Community we all created here together.
