Research

Dr. Stolt’s interests are in the application of soil science to environmental issues and problems. Current research focuses on coastal and riparian ecosystems relative to carbon sequestration and accounting; effects of accelerated sea level rise on salt marsh degradation and migration; management strategies for restoration of salt marshes; identifying groundwater discharge areas into estuaries; developing soil-based interpretations for subaqueous soils (aquaculture, dredging, SAV restoration); understanding temperature and hydrologic factors in greenhouse gas fluxes in vernal pools; using Mn sensors as to identify hot spots for denitrification in riparian wetlands, the distribution of subaqueous soils in estuaries, and soil morphology-aquic condition relationships.
