Mission Statement

  • To directly monitor, review and evaluate the activities of The University of Rhode Island Police Department to ensure that the highest level of professionalism, performance, ethics and standards are achieved, practiced and exercised by sworn personnel, while maintaining the highest level of integrity and morale.
  • To build and maintain cooperative and collaborative professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders, as well as the local community groups. To participate in community events that offer assistance to the community such as community-based policing programs, campus safety initiatives, and crime prevention workshops that educate the community members and are consistent with department objectives.
  • To provide a safe environment where students, faculty, staff and visitors can all come together for the purpose of educating the minds and enriching the lives of those who choose to be a part of the community. To help achieve these goals, the officers of our department will perform their duties efficiently and fairly, with compassion, wisdom, and a sense of justice.
  • To support agency leadership initiatives. To promote and instill training, education, and responsibilities to all personnel assigned to The University of Rhode Island Police Department with an emphasis on building a strong leadership experience foundation to benefit the Police Department, The Department of Public Safety, and The University of Rhode Island. This will help develop or enhance professional relationships with the community stakeholders through training, public relations, and cooperative and collaborative partnerships. To develop and mentor subordinates and work toward enhancing their skills and knowledge for career development opportunities.
