The URI Department of Public Safety consists of the following units:
- University Police – Fully Sworn State Certified Police Officers and Uniformed Non-Sworn Officers.
- Transportation & Parking – Permit Sales, Planning, Shuttle Services, Rhody SafeRides and Parking Enforcement.
- Fire & Life Safety – Ensures compliance of Rhode Island Fire Codes and Rhode Island Life Safety Codes. In addition, this unit provides training, oversees fire-safety related and hazardous operations, performs building fire safety inspections and investigates university facilities to ensure that fire risks are minimized.
- Alarms Division – Maintains and all fire and burglar alarm systems. Dispatches a 24/7 on call technician when a problem arises with the alarm systems.
- Emergency Management – Provides planning and services for preparedness, response, recovery, prevention and mitigation and serves as the liaison with other local, state, and federal emergency providers and responders.
- Communications and Technology – Integrated with Rhode Island’s E-911 system, all emergency calls placed on campus are routed directly to our dispatch center centrally located on campus. Dispatchers monitor a wide array of telecommunications, radio, video, and alarm systems under the direction of the Deputy Chief of Police.
- Administration – Consists of the Assistant Vice President, Assistant Director, Executive Assistant, Fiscal Management Officer, Assistant Business Management Officer, and Coordinator of Community Outreach and Education.
