TD Welcomes Back Scholars

On Tuesday, September 5, the Talent Development staff hosted a welcome back meeting for TD scholars in Chafee Hall Auditorium. This was TD’s first time hosting the event during the URI Advising Day and we certainly did not expect such a large turnout.

The event was MC’ed by TD alumnus and current Academic Advisor Bobby Britto-Oliveira and our special guest speaker was Dr. Dan Graney, URI’s new Dean of Students. The event also featured words of advice from TD alumnus and Assistant Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Earl Smith; and TD alumna and Associate Director for Academic Programming and Assessment, Kristina Moyet.

Some of the major highlights of the meeting included acknowledging the 98% of our incoming scholars who successfully completed the Summer Success Program; acknowledging the 191 TD Scholars who earned Dean’s list during the spring semester; and informing TD Scholars about the increase in grade point average required to maintain their Hardge/Forleo Grant.

The event was also an opportunity to introduce our current scholars to our recent hires, Michele Martel, Assistant Director for Assessment and Communication; TD alumna and Academic Advisor Margarida Da Graca and Academic Advisor, Corey Fernandez who is affectionately known as one of the many adoptees of the TD Program during his undergraduate and graduate career at the University. We look forward to a successful academic year as a staff and especially for our Scholars.
