What is a Teen Science Café (TSC)?
No experience with science is needed to join the TSC! All curious teens are welcome!
TSC is a series of free, fun events where teens can socialize, enjoy refreshments, and talk with local STEM professionals about current, cutting-edge ideas in science and technology. TSC is a relaxed and informal program. Cafés are structured to promote lively conversation and interaction among teens and STEM professionals.
A Café is not a lecture, it is a discussion! Scientists share their experiences, an overview of their career path, relevant research in their field, and answer questions! Most Cafés feature a hands-on activity, so teens can actively engage in the science/technology being discussed.
TSC is a national program, with active Cafés in states across the country. Check out the Teen Science Café network for more information on national TSC. programming

How Does TSC Work?
Cafés are for teens, by teens. A core group of Teen Leaders, with the committed mentorship of an adult, plan and run the Café themselves. Along the way, Teen Leaders gain a host of leadership skills (which looks great in their Record Books!). The TSC meets 4-5 times per year during the school semester. Adults attending are asked to observe only.
How Can I Get Involved?

Consider taking on a leadership position such as:
- Café Host: Greet people on site, help organize the space, send out Café reminders, communicate with guest speakers
- Refreshments Coordinator: Organize refreshments on site, manage refreshments volunteers
- Photographer: Take pictures at Cafés and store/manage pictures
- Teen Leader: Serve as part of a committee to plan the year’s Cafés (topics, dates, speakers, etc.)
