Course Content Tutors

STEM & Business Tutors provide content-specific tutoring support for undergraduate students enrolled in introductory STEM & Business courses. Tutoring is primarily offered for subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Math, Physics, Engineering, Nursing, Business Analytics, Finance, Accounting, Economics, and Statistics. More courses are added as needed each semester.

STEM & BUS Tutor Job Description

Role: STEM & Business tutors provide content-specific tutoring support to fellow undergraduate students. Tutors are expected to work in small group sessions and in the library drop-in center.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Tutor a minimum of 4 hours per week; ideally 8-10 hours per week.
  • Ability and willingness to tutor in person and online, in drop-in and small groups.
  • Develop and maintain a rapport with students to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance.
  • Remain up to date on study strategies, course content and academic integrity.
  • Participate in (paid) new tutor training sessions.
  • Attend ongoing (paid) training and professional development opportunities to continually improve tutoring skills and knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must be an undergraduate student in good academic standing.
  • Grade of B+ or better in the courses you wish to tutor.
  • Ability to tutor a mix of higher and lower level courses; ideally 3+ courses.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and concise manner.
  • Knowledge and confident communication of AEC and other campus services.
  • Strength in time management and responsibility.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of diverse student populations.

Compensation:

  • Positions are available for pay or academic credit.
  • Pay rate is $14.00 per hour, with increases for leadership roles.
