Q. What makes the College of Arts and Sciences at URI unique?
A. What makes it so unique is the flexibility to take control of your education. Of course there are mandatory classes to take according to your major but then you have other courses to be able to explore other subjects and languages! As a CCJ Major I enjoyed being able to take political science courses and many psychology courses. I even took an education course and made a lesson plan!
What accomplishments and/or activities at URI are you most proud of now?
I’m proud to have been able to be part of Student Senate and to work alongside amazing students who are passionate about serving and helping the students in the University.
What research projects, internships, experiential learning, and/or study abroad programs did you participate in at URI? How did they enhance your education?
While at URI I was able to obtain three amazing internships that helped me gain knowledge and skills. I interned at the office of RI Commission for Human Rights, an immigration law firm, and lastly at the Mayor’s office in Central Falls. Through these internships I was able to learn more about serving the people and making sure they get the treatment they deserve.
What do you value about your liberal arts education?
What I value the most about my education is the flexibility. I was able to take many courses that were from various departments such as psychology, gender and women’s studies, history and criminal justice (just to name a few) but was able to take and find intersections within the subjects.
What’s next for you?
I will be working on my non-profit organization that I started during the pandemic! This organization is focused on helping families in need in RI and also in varies countries. During the pandemic I learned how important it is to come together to help those who most need it. Additionally I will be working on my journey to law school! I hope to open my own law firm and also run for office eventually!
