Mia Marmolejos ’26

Mia Marmolejos ’26, English and minor in fine art, currently serves as the URI Panhellenic PR Chair, with previous experience as the URI Sigma Delta Tau PR Chair. She is passionate about social media and digital storytelling, with a focus on showcasing the people behind the content. Mia discovered her interest in social media through photography and her involvement in Greek Life, which led her to manage the URI Sigma Delta Tau, URI Greek Life, and URI Panhellenic Instagram accounts. After her graduation, she plans to become an English teacher while continuing to explore social and digital media as a creative outlet.

Where are you from, and what made you choose URI?
I’m from Bridgewater, New Jersey. My mom is an alum of URI, and growing up, she would always make our family stop at the Kingston campus during trips back from Boston. Over time, I became so accustomed to visiting that I always knew it would be URI for me.

In your time here at URI, what are some opportunities and experiences that have been the most meaningful for you?
Joining Greek Life has opened up so many opportunities for me; from meeting some of my best friends to exploring my passion for social media on a broader scope.

What social media accounts do you manage, and how long have you been in those positions?
I manage the URI Sigma Delta Tau Instagram, URI Greek Life Instagram, and URI Panhellenic Instagram. I have been in the SDT role for a year and the URI Greek Life/Panhellenic role for a semester.

How do you manage responsibilities with multiple social media accounts?
My process involves sitting down at the beginning of the semester to focus on content and branding goals for each account. It’s important to me to stay organized, as well. I have a color-coded Google Calendar, content calendars, and I plan content on the 1st of every month.

How did you get involved with social media with an English and art background?
As an English major with a concentration in literature, I really enjoy the more journalism-focused work. Social media is another form of storytelling. My passion for digital media started in high school, being the “photography friend” and enjoyed personal social media platforms. Out of love and dedication for my sorority chapter, I took over their social media as a sophomore and junior, showcasing my sisters. I’ve always enjoyed digital media as a hobby, as it supports personal growth, communication, and networking.

How do you find inspiration for content?
My inspiration for content comes from browsing Pinterest and other social media platforms. I try to avoid most of my content following trending templates and instead focus on the values and information I want to convey.

What has been your favorite content that you’ve produced?
For Greek Life content, it’s always been important to me to show the people behind the stereotypes. This looks like informational posts that debunk sorority myths, share safety tips, and explore what Greek Life truly is. One of my favorite posts I created for the URI Sigma Delta Tau Instagram was a senior spotlight in which girls shared their favorite memories from the past four years. I aim for my content to be less like a photo dump and more about highlighting the emotional background and stories of a photo, showing the love in their brand image.

What are some of your favorite things you’ve learned in your program?
In English, the course studies ask you to look inward and discover yourself. It helps you realize potential and learn more about the people around you through their work. This is a concept I aim to integrate into my social media work to highlight the emotional connection behind the information.

In my fine arts minor, it tests the waters in how much you are able to create yourself, using your mind, testing creativity, and capabilities. I use these strategies to create my content as well.

What are your goals after graduation? Would you want to continue in social media?
I intend to keep working in social and digital media as a hobby, but my main focus after graduation is to become an English teacher.
