Careers
Some examples of the marketable skills and potential careers/opportunities for our graduates include:
- Graduate programs in Science Communication (both at URI and elsewhere)
- Technical writing and publishing where our graduates would be able to contribute to discussions and knowledge acquisition for general (non-scientific) audiences
- Science and environmental writing for a range of audiences, ranging from the technical to the larger public
- Sea Grant Extension work and environmental grant writing more generally
- Critical analysis for a variety of industries through providing broader conceptualizations and contextually rich discussion of environmental issues to combat misinformation, bad data, and other issues stemming from misunderstandings of the historical contexts underlying these issues
- Providing skills to prepare students for work in policy, government, and law school
- The ability to talk about human impact and to work for news media (or other communication outlets), as well as producing usable documents for a variety of audiences
- Playing an important role in countering the use of AI/properly using AI in discussions of the environmental issues
- Collaborating with international partners by being able to provide an understanding of different conceptualizations of environment, through knowledge of indigenous perspectives, cultural practices for care, the ability to move beyond western-centric view, etc.
- Providing critical perspectives of sustainability, based on many of the other goals listed above
