Sophia Szabo ‘22, a triple major in communication studies, film/media, and journalism, interned at WPRI News/Channel 12.
“My time at the station has been an incredible learning experience and has renewed my passion for broadcast journalism,” she says. “Many skilled reporters took time out of their day to assist me in reporting, writing, editing, and my on-camera presence. With their help I have been able to put together a professional reporter’s reel. In addition, I have made very close connections with a dozen people in the industry.” As for how the A&S Internship Fund helped, she says: “The old saying ‘dress for the job you want’ is especially true in the field I am going into. You want to prove to future employers that you can look clean and professional on camera. With help from the A&S Internship Fund I was able to invest in a professional wardrobe to wear. In addition, the internship was in East Providence which is a 70 mile round-trip from my condo in Narragansett! With the help of this funding I was able to afford to take time-off of work and have enough money to gas.”
