Our faculty have worked hard to create innovative one-credit courses that are responsive to urgent, timely issues, including COVID-19 and racial justice, or address practical concerns such as career preparation. One such course taught in the fall 2020 semester was Workplace Readiness for Social Science Majors, a fully online career readiness workshop designed for social science majors in the College of Arts and Sciences and co-taught by Political Science Department Chair Marc Hutchison and Arts and Sciences Associate Dean Brian Krueger.
The 25 students in the class, who came from all A&S social science majors, created resumes and LinkedIn accounts, wrote elevator pitches, and more. They discussed various workplace and career topics with URI alumni from a wide range of careers during Zoom meetings, many of which became mentoring conversations that continued over email. βI am so, so glad I took this course because I learned a great deal along the way,β one student said. βIt will definitely benefit and better prepare me for life after college.β
We offer many ways for alumni to stay connected to the College. Learn more here.
