Rule of Participation

The XV Progress in Motor Control Conference is dedicated to providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all attendees, free from discrimination, harassment, and inappropriate behavior. We uphold values of professionalism, equity, and mutual respect, and we expect all participants to adhere to these standards throughout the event. 

Expectations of Behavior

All attendees, speakers, organizers, and staff are expected to conduct themselves in a professional and respectful manner. The following behaviors are strictly prohibited:

  • Harassment: Unwanted verbal, physical, or written conduct that demeans intimidates, or threatens another person.
  • Sexual Harassment: Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, or other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature.
  • Discrimination: Any behavior that demeans or excludes individuals based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, religion, or any other characteristic protected by law.
  • Bullying: Aggressive behavior that intimidates, humiliates, or undermines another individual, including in-person or online interactions.
  • Retaliation: Actions taken against an individual who has reported harassment or discrimination or who has participated in an investigation.

Reporting Alleged Violations

Attendees can report violations of the code of conduct confidentially and securely:

  • In Person: Speak directly to a designated conference organizer at the on-site help desk.
  • By Email: Send concerns to the designated email address: mariusz.furmanek@uri.edu
  • All reports will be handled with sensitivity and confidentiality.

Assessment and Consequences

Initial Assessment: Conference organizers will promptly review allegations and may consult with URI’s Title IX Office, Human Resources, or legal counsel as needed.

Investigation: If necessary, a thorough and impartial investigation will be conducted, respecting the confidentiality of all parties involved.

Consequences: If a violation is confirmed, appropriate actions may include, but are not limited to:

  • Warnings
  • Removal from the conference without a refund
  • Reporting to the individual’s institution or employer
  • Reporting to law enforcement, if warranted.
