M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology

Admission

The URI M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology program typically accepts between 20 and 25 students each year. Most of these are will start in the fall semester; a smaller number of students start in the spring semester*.

*Please note that after Spring 2025, we will no longer be admitting students in the spring.

How to Apply

Apply online through the URI Graduate School website. You must upload all supplemental materials to the online application.

Application Deadlines

  • For Fall admission: January 15
  • For Spring admission: October 15 (*last round of Spring admission applications will be submitted in Fall 2024)

Criteria

To be competitive for the acceptance into the M.S. program, you’ll need the following:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a solid record of academic performance in coursework
  • A personal statement describing EITHER of the following:
    • a challenge you have had in your life and how your reaction to that challenge has helped prepare you for graduate school;
    • a project or responsibility you took on that fostered skills relevant to your graduate career.
  • Three letters of recommendation, including:
    • Two letters from persons who can discuss your past academic work and your potential to succeed at graduate-level work;
    • One letter from an individual who can comment on your interpersonal skills, like a former employer.

*NOTE: Applicants are not required to submit GRE or MAT scores. In addition, an undergraduate major in communication disorders is NOT required.

Fees

Application Fees

Two required application fees must be paid prior to review of materials by the Admissions Committee:

  • To CSDCAS when submitting your application.
  • To the University of Rhode Island during the application process: A $65 USD non-refundable application processing fee is due by the application deadline. We recommend you pay as soon as possible to avoid forgetting this important step in the process.

Other Fees

Beginning with applicants admitted in the fall of 2021, students will be required to pay a professional fee during each fall and/or spring semester in which they are enrolled in CMD 570 (Clinical Practicum).
