M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology

Admission

The URI M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology program is highly competitive. Historically, we have had approximately five openings for spring admission and between 15-20 openings for fall admission each year. These numbers will fluctuate depending on the number of graduates we have had the previous semester.

How to Apply

Apply online through the URI Graduate School website. You must upload all supplemental materials to the online application.

Application Deadlines

  • For Fall admission: January 15
  • For Spring admission: October 15

Criteria

To be competitive for the acceptance into the M.S. program, you’ll need the following:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a solid record of academic performance in coursework
  • You must have at least a 3.0 GPA from your undergraduate program to apply, although the lowest GPA for our accepted students is generally closer to a 3.5. For our Fall 2019 class, GPAs of those accepted ranged between 3.49-4.0.
  • Your personal statement should be no longer than two pages and focus on three areas:
    • Your reason for pursuing a career in speech-language pathology,
    • The personal qualities you possess that you will apply to the rigors of a graduate program, and
    • A challenge you have had in your life and how you successfully met
      that challenge.
  • Two letters of recommendation from persons who can discuss your past academic work and your potential to succeed at graduate-level work
  • A third letter of recommendation may be added from an individual who can comment on your interpersonal skills, like a former employer
  • GRE scores are NOT required.

Fees

Application Fees

Two required application fees must be paid prior to review of materials by the Admissions Committee:

  • To CSDCAS when submitting your application.
  • To the University of Rhode Island during the application process: A $65 USD non-refundable application processing fee is due by the application deadline. We recommend you pay as soon as possible to avoid forgetting this important step in the process.

Other Fees

Beginning with applicants admitted in the fall of 2021, students will be required to pay a professional fee during each fall and/or spring semester in which they are enrolled in CMD 570 (Clinical Practicum).
