O’Neil, Sarah

Name: Sarah O’Neil
Where are you from: Methuen, MA
Major: Environmental and Natural Resource Economics
Expected Graduation date: Fall 2019

What is your responsibility as a 2019 URI Energy Fellow (i.e. what team are you on/where are you working)?
I am working at Green Development, LLC. They are a fast growing renewable energy developer in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. Within the company, I work in the newly created Asset Management Department. The department seeks to manage and optimize the company’s renewable energy assets, such as wind and solar projects. I’m currently working on analyzing data and composing spreadsheets that increase customer insight into the programs they are involved in and resultant bills they are sent by National Grid. The ultimate goal is to streamline information sharing between utilities, Green Development, and the customer to ensure the assets are optimizing their potential benefits. I’m also becoming involved in company outreach to spread information about the importance of renewable energy in the evolving energy industry. Each project I work on is rewarding since it is part of the process of executing asset management procedures and building a new department.

What do you like to do in your free time? Are you involved in any other organizations or activities on campus?
On campus, I am a College of the Environment and Life Sciences student ambassador. I’m able to spread the word to new and potential students about my major and experinces at URI. Outside of my campus involvement, I like to explore popular destinations and hidden gems across Rhode Island. I also like to go for runs and cook!
