Gomes, Andrew

Name: Andrew Gomes
Where are you from: Belleville, New Jersey
Major: Electrical Engineering
Expected Graduation date: Spring 2021

What is your responsibility as a 2020 URI Energy Fellow (i.e. what team are you on/where are you working)?
As a 2020 Energy Fellow, I have had the opportunity to work with the brilliant minds at Creative Environment Corp. (CEC) in Cranston. As of right now, I have been trained to understand the software systems used in the development of schematic drawings for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. These software systems allow for the client and the developers to track the energy and power consumption of the components in said building. As I progress, I will be instructed to aid in the development of these projects, fixing mark-ups that my coworkers need assistance in to reach a deadline. Eventually, I will be invited to join in on project visits to get a feel of what the client wants, what is the best possible approach to creating the schematic, and how we can create the most efficient solution.

What do you like to do in your free time? Are you involved in any other organizations or activities on campus?
When I am not in the library studying, my free time is normally spent reading or working out in the on-campus gyms. Over the course of my college career, I have been an active member in URI’s chapter of Engineers for a Sustainable World, a member of the URI Club Wrestling team, and I recently created the Boxing Club with other URI students.
