Name: Hasan Shahriar Simanto
Where are you from: Dhaka, Bangladesh
Major: BS in Mechanical Engineering, MS in Systems Engineering
Expected Graduation Date: May 2018

What is your responsibility as a 2017 URI Energy Fellow (i.e. what team are you on/where are you working)?
I work at the URI Sustainability Office as a Green Building Energy Fellow. My responsibilities include creating building profiles of the green buildings on campus, calculating Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions on campus, and analyzing different measures to reduce GHG emission. Being able to work toward a greener campus is the most rewarding part of my job. As a Mechanical Engineer, energy was always my area of interest. However, re-evaluating the importance of energy from a systems perspective is needed to achieve true sustainability. I like the fact that my job is providing me enough exposure to the real world challenges of a sustainable future. I’m looking forward to participating in different energy events and visiting industries working in the energy sector.

In my free time I like to…
I like to play tennis. I also follow tennis and American football. I like watching movies, TV series and documentaries. I love eating outside and trying new things. Apart from my fellowship and research assistantship position in a lab, I’m involved in an organization named Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW).
