Najih’s Retirement

Najih formally joined CRC in 2014 after a distinguished career working for the Ministry of Fisheries in Morocco, the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, the RI Department of Environmental Management, and the URI Fisheries Center. While at CRC, Najih worked as a Senior Fisheries Advisor, living in Accra, Ghana for two years, where he headed up efforts to rebuild the pelagic fish stocks that are important to food security. His global expertise and networks in management have contributed to some of the most important outcomes of CRC’s fisheries projects in Senegal, Ghana, Malawi, the Philippines, and Madagascar. Najih will be missed greatly as a colleague at CRC.  He is the perfect travel partner, being warm, friendly and speaking numerous languages.  He always prepared to share a story and his time.  He is a compassionate soul and true advocate for justice, equity and diversity. He has personally touched the lives of many of our CRC colleagues by sharing delicious Moroccan food, teaching us all about African soccer, and going above and beyond in helping people whenever there was a need – from sharing a gym membership in Ghana to donating furniture and offering his chauffeuring services to foreign graduate students in need.  We all look forward to visiting the World’s most interesting man at his olive farm in Morocco!
