Community, Equity and Diversity established the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion 365 Symposium as a virtual “third space” for University of Rhode Island students, faculty, staff, alumni, affiliates, and community members to convene conversations about diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, and decolonization.
The theme for this year’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion 365 Symposium is Allyship. The purpose of this space is to problematize, interrogate, and challenge the systems of oppression that people from non-dominant groups encounter in the United States. These discussions will allow CED to host and sponsor conversations that capture the current state of our society (e.g. violence against the Asian community, people with disability, Violence against the LGBTQA community, etc.).
This space will focus on anti-ableism, anti-ageism, anti-capitalism, anti-classism, anti-colorism, anti-homophobia, anti-Islamophobia, anti-racism, anti-Semitism, anti-sexism, anti-transphobia, anti-xenophobia, and other forms of subjugation.
The conversations will take many forms, including panels, workshops, book talks, discussion groups, envisioning sessions, and teach-ins, bringing together a multitude of voices and perspectives to grapple with the topics that impact us within and beyond the University.
If you would like to submit a session proposal, please contact the DE&I 365 Symposium chair, Safie Sagna for more information at uriced@etal.uri.edu.
