Stephanie Robat knew she would start her own engineering firm some day. Just three years after completing her master’s and bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering from the University of Rhode Island, she made her goal come to fruition.

Gözde Çay developed a soft, e-textile chest belt to prevent skin injuries suffered by infants in neonatal intensive care units due to long-term use of adhesives in medical electrodes. A doctoral student in computer engineering, Çay entered her project in the IEEE 60-Second Innovation Video Contest.
