FY12 Annual Report: The Future

Future Classroom

Evolve – it’s what we do. From the day the college began in 1899 to today, our teaching and research have grown to keep pace with an ever-changing world. We’ve hired faculty, constructed buildings and branched into fields that did not exist a mere decade ago.

We launched the next phase of our evolution in Fiscal Year 2012 by commissioning a college Master Plan, the first such plan in more than 50 years.

With the assistance of the world-renowned architectural and planning firm Ballinger, the college will look closely at our existing buildings, study the needs of our students and faculty, and draw up plans for new and transformational facilities.

We expect that these laboratories, classrooms and meeting spaces will reflect contemporary times. Today’s challenges call for facilities that encourage interdisciplinary research and teaching, and can adapt rapidly to our changing economy.

In short, our Master Plan will map a future where modern facilities promote big ideas and solutions to the real-world challenges society faces every day.

To support this vision, the college also launched the College of Engineering Future Fund. This endowment exclusively supports a vision for strengthening the teaching and research through contemporary facilities.

We expect to complete our Master Plan in Fiscal Year 2014. With its publication, we’ll continue the evolution we started more than a century ago.
