The Southeastern New England Defense Industry Alliance (SENEDIA) awarded a $1,500 scholarship to URI chemical engineering student Emma Sudduth on Aug. 26 at the SENEDIA Defense Conference in Newport.
“I felt very surprised, happy and humbled when I found out that I won the scholarship,” said Sudduth, who is also majoring in Spanish through URI’s International Engineering Program.
Sudduth was one of four students to receive the SENEDIA scholarship, but the only one from URI. Awardees were evaluated on their scholastic achievements, essays on why they chose the STEM field, honors, and volunteer work, among other factors.
The Norton, Massachusetts native is also a Resident Academic Mentor (RAM) at URI.
