URI College of Engineering Dean Anthony Marchese gave a presentation to the engineering faculty on funding that is available through the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) for developing new ways to generate, store and use energy.
ARPA-E projects have the potential to improve economic prosperity, national security and the environment.
Marchese spoke about the streamlined award process and gave some examples of projects that have been selected for funding.
ARPA-E is modeled after the successful Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) – the agency credited with such innovations as GPS, the stealth fighter and computer networking. In 2009, ARPA-E received its first appropriations of $400 million, which funded ARPA-E’s first projects.
