During a recent trip to Germany, K. Wayne Lee, University of Rhode Island professor of civil and environmental engineering, chaired an international conference, met with counterparts at the University of Braunschweig, and had a little time left over for some sightseeing.
The main purpose of Lee’s visit to Germany was to chair CIVILMEET2022, the International Conference on Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering, from May 23-25. The conference attracted scientists and researchers from academia and industry from more than 35 countries.
After welcoming everyone to the conference, which was held in Munich, Lee gave a presentation on “Use of Warm Mix Asphalt with Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement to Reduce Climate Change.”
Following the conference, Lee visited the Braunschweig Pavement Engineering Centre at the University of Braunschweig. The professor met with the faculty and staff at the centre, including the director, Professor Michael Wistuba. The manager of the facility, Stephan Büchler, gave Lee a tour.
URI has had a close working relationship with the University of Braunschweig for many years through the International Engineering Program. Sigrid Berka, executive director of URI’s IEP, helped arrange the meeting between Lee and his counterparts in Germany.
Toward the end of Lee’s trip, Yun Su Kim, a research assistant at the pavement centre, provided a tour of Goslar, a picturesque town in Germany’s Harz Mountains.
