Biography
Dr. Garfield Kwan completed his doctorate at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego. Garfield received the NSF Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (NOAA SWFSC), California Delta Science Fellowship (UC Davis), and Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship (University of Exeter).
Garfield’s research centers on ionic and acid-base regulations in aquatic organisms. He combines empirical and functional measurements to assess physiological responses to aquaculture, wildfire runoff, and future ocean conditions. Garfield specializes in analyzing fish microfluids including endolymph (to understand otolith biomineralization, elemental/isotopic incorporation), and cerebral spinal fluid (for behavior, neurophysiology, sensory biology research).
