Dr. Gill is an assistant teaching professor in CELS teaching animal science curriculum and advising students in animal and veterinary sciences. Before arriving at URI in 2020, Dr. Gill was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Agriculture at Western Kentucky University. Dr. Gill has taught a broad range of undergraduate classes in the animal sciences, including equine science, horse training, animal nutrition, animal diseases, equine nutrition, and A&P of domestic animals. She has experience with managing a research and teaching herd of university horses, agricultural facility design, and community engagement.


Dr. Gill’s research pertains to equine obesity and weight management, with particular interest in managing horses with equine metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, and laminitis. Most recently, Dr. Gill has been mentoring undergraduate students in the collection of data from horses in the community to provide hands-on horse experience that prepares students for careers in animal science and veterinary school. Dr. Gill’s research and extension background is infused into her teaching philosophy, which emphasizes active learning and a hands-on understanding of science. Her classes involve practical application questions, analysis of research, dissections at Peckham farm, veterinary case report writing, and collaborative activities.
