Congratulations, Grace Reed!1st Place Gandhi Essay Contest Winner 2013-14 Grace Reed, 8th Grade Student at Winman Junior High School, of Warwick, RI, reading her winning essay at the annual award ceremony at URI. In 2013-14 we received a total of 161 entries from 8th graders from 17 schools across Rhode Island, from which our 21 finalists were selected. These students, their families, teachers, and principals were invited to join us for our 2013-14 Gandhi Essay Award Ceremony on April 30th, from 5-7pm at the Multicultural Center Forum at URI. Gandhi Service Award Winner!!!

This award honors students who exemplify the qualities of compassion and service according to Gandhi’s philosophy, “the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” The purpose of the award is to inspire future generations to follow the examples of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. whose lives exemplified compassion and selfless service as they achieved their goals of peace, freedom, equality, and justice for all.
