Bo Brady ’26

Bo Brady ’26, journalism, has taken advantage of hands-on reporting opportunities and global experiences at the University of Rhode Island, from stepping outside his comfort zone with The Good 5 Cent Cigar to representing URI abroad in Seoul, South Korea. Passionate about storytelling and sports, he hopes to turn his love for journalism and athletics into a career in sports media after graduation.

What is your major and graduation year?

I am a Journalism major in the class of 2026

Where are you from, and why did you choose URI?

I am from Merrick, New York, a town on the south shore of Long Island. I chose URI because I really loved the culture, location, and everything it had to offer.

What has been your favorite course, and why?

My favorite course was probably JOR 310- Journalism Laws and Ethics with Jason Jaacks. A really interesting class taught by a professor I always enjoyed learning from.

You are a part of the student newspaper, the Good 5 Cent Cigar. How has this opportunity shaped your college experience?

I never got super involved with the Cigar, but the brief experience I did have really helped me get out of my comfort zone and gain hands-on experience as a journalist.

In your time here at URI, what are some opportunities and experiences that have been the most meaningful to you?

I was lucky enough to be selected as a delegate to represent URI in Seoul, South Korea, this past November. During this experience, I reported on initiatives URI was advancing in the region to build connections, recruit international students, and create study-abroad opportunities. This was not only my most worthwhile experience at URI, but it was one of the coolest things I’ve done in my life. URI has given me a lot, but this really stands out as one of my proudest accomplishments here.

What are your career goals and future plans?

My goal moving forward is to work in sports journalism or sports media. To combine 2 of my passions in life would be all I could ask for.
