Michael Honhart

Biography

Michael Honhart was hired as a specialist in German history, but in his 51-year career at URI he taught more than a dozen different courses in history and in interdisciplinary programs. He served as chair or interim chair of the Department of History on several occasions. He also served his department as Director of Graduate Studies and Director of Undergraduate Studies. He was active in the Faculty Senate, the URI-AAUP, and the Phi Beta Kappa honor society, and he worked for many years as a faculty advisor at University College. He won awards at URI for undergraduate advising, for service to the Faculty Senate, and for contributions to the undergraduate general education program.
