HLE’s are available for students admitted in Fall 2026 or later. Students admitted prior to Fall 2026 could petition for the chance to make these experiences count towards Honors credits.

Honors Learning Experiences or HLEs grant Honors credits to current credit-bearing experiences such as teaching assistantships, research assistantships, practicums, clinicals, study abroad, internships or fellowships applications, or URI 101 mentorships.

Students who begin at URI in fall 2026 or later can use HLE’s to count towards elective credits. Students become eligible to pursue an HLE after the completion of 12 credits of Honors work (usually upon completion of their sophomore year.) Students can count a maximum of 8 HLE credits towards Honors program completion.
