Thank you for your interest in the Early Childhood Institute. Registration is closed to the general public. If you are a provider participating in BrightStars and would like to enroll, please email urieci@etal.uri.edu to inquire about being added to the wait list. Thank you!

 

Early childhood professionals and directors from across the state are encouraged to sign up for this FREE professional development event!

Teachers and administrators at BrightStars rated sites will receive priority for the conference. Sites who do not currently participate in BrightStars will be placed on a wait-list and contacted by the end of October about the status of registration.

In addition to free Professional Development workshops led by URI faculty, staff and teachers, attendees will receive:

  1. Continuing education credits (5 per day),
  2. An Amazon gift card,
  3. Entries for raffle items for your classrooms,
  4. Entry into a raffle for a laptop,
  5. The opportunity to share best teaching strategies with your peers,
  6. Eligibility for ongoing coaching and mentoring from URI Child Development staff.

The Early Childhood Institute will be held on the Providence URI campus on Friday, November 15, 2019 and Saturday, November 16, 2019. Please note that the Friday series of workshops will target early childhood program directors and leaders and the Saturday workshops will target teachers and care providers.

The itinerary for the day is below, and attendees will be able to choose the workshops at the time of registration. All workshops will include presentations, break out sessions and hands-on teaching demos by URI Child Development Center teachers.

Friday (Program Directors)

The Friday series of workshops will be targeted for early childhood program directors and leaders. Others are encouraged to register if interested, though in the case of high demand priority will be given to program leaders. The itinerary for the day is below, and attendees will be able to choose the workshops. All workshops will include presentations, break out sessions and hands-on teaching demos by Child Development Center teachers.

*Please note that with the exception of Site Management, all Friday workshops are relevant for teachers. Teachers are welcome to attend!

*Participation in Research: At URI, we are committed to learning about conditions that affect job performance and job satisfaction in the early childhood workforce. Therefore, all attendees will be asked to participate in research at the Institute, which will help us to better support professional development offerings in the future.

Saturday (Teachers and Providers)

The Saturday series of workshops will be targeted for early childhood teachers and providers. Others are encouraged to register if interested, though in the case of high demand priority will be given to teachers and providers. The itinerary for the day is below, and attendees will be able to choose their preferred workshops. All workshops will include presentations, break out sessions and hands-on teaching demos by Child Development Center teachers.

Celebration of “Big Ideas” Teaching Showcase

Saturday also includes a Celebration of “Big Ideas” Teaching Showcase!

It is also our goal to showcase the innovative strategies of all early childhood professionals and promote an environment of leadership. Therefore, ECE professionals will be invited to apply to share an innovative teaching practice used in their classroom. Examples include posters of activities, hands-on demonstrations, table displays, slide shows, etc. Early childhood professionals who are chosen will receive a $50 amazon gift card to help aid in the purchase of supplies to support quality improvement efforts at their sites.
