Spring 2027 Applied AI Course Options Now Available

URI will offer three complementary Applied AI courses in Spring 2027 for students who want to use or build AI methods in scientific research.

  • AI in Marine & Earth Sciences (OCG 494-0012) is a three-credit, pass/fail course for juniors and seniors. No coding background is required; students will work with real environmental data and learn to assess AI results critically. It meets Monday and Wednesday, 3:00–4:15 p.m., in Bliss Hall 210.
  • AI Tools for Graduate Research in the Ocean, Environmental and Life Sciences (OCG 593) helps graduate students use AI tools responsibly with their own research data, including analysis, visualization, literature work, and reproducible workflows. It meets Monday and Wednesday, 9:00–10:15 a.m., in Watkins Hall 12 at the Narragansett Bay Campus.
  • AAI4STEM: Applications of AI Methods Across STEM Disciplines (PHY 591-0001) is for graduate students—and qualified advanced undergraduates—with Python and quantitative preparation who want to build and evaluate modern AI methods. It meets Tuesday and Thursday, 11:00 a.m.–12:15 p.m., in Swan Hall 211.

All three courses run January 26–May 3, 2027. Registration details, instructor contacts, and syllabus or flyer links are available on the Applied AI Courses page.
