Accelerated Bachelor’s to Master’s
Overview
The Neuroscience ABM program offers qualified URI students the opportunity to complete both the B.S. in Neuroscience (Majoring in one of the three tracks: Clinical neuroscience, Molecular neuroscience, or Neuropharmacology) and the M.S. in Neuroscience (non-thesis and thesis options) in five years.
The URI Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program (INP) is developing researchers and entrepreneurs who will add to the existing neuroscience knowledge base regarding behavior, emotion, and cognition, and will help to develop interventions for neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s, ALS, Frontotemporal Dementia, and Parkinson’s disease.
INP students will gain exposure to genomic approaches to understanding the basic mechanisms of disease, molecular mechanisms of proteins, and become knowledgeable about brain based conditions such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, substance use disorder, epilepsy, movement disorders, communicative disorders, Fanconi anemia, and more.
Depending on the particular area of study, students may also gain experience with medicinal plants and other types of pharmacological interventions, brain-interface systems, and/or the development of medical equipment and instrumentation. Students will graduate with a depth and breadth of training in the neurosciences, as well as practical, hands-on laboratory skills and significant research experience.
