Staying Busy Stuck Inside!

Jamie our blog writer holding a baking tray with meatballs on itFor me, and probably a lot of you, before having to “social distance” your schedules were pretty busy. I am someone who relies A LOT on my busy schedule for structure. During quarantine, I have been trying to stay creative to stay busy! One positive outcome of this is we can all use this time to better ourselves, spend time with our family, and even learn new skills. This is the list I created (some I have done already & some I haven’t!) to keep busy!

  • Cook! (or bake)

I have used this time to learn how to cook things I haven’t before! During the school year being so busy, I usually would meal prep on Sunday’s something easy and eat the same thing for a week straight. Now that I have some time I have been creative & I even learned how to make homemade meatballs! (@uridining has cooking videos)

  • Organize & clean your closet

This is something that everyone always wants (or needs) to do, but never “gets around to it.” I am guilty as well. This is a good time to go through everything and get rid of what you don’t need, I ended up with two trash bags for Goodwill!

  • Delete your emails

This one makes me laugh because it’s something NO ONE wants to deal with. The amount of websites I have entered my email in makes it almost impossible to ever clear out my inbox. This is a great time to go through and unsubscribe to websites so you stop getting spam emails. And yes I am still putting this one off!

  • Have a paint night

As much as I love watching movies, some nights I almost get sick of watching them. A paint night or even another arts & craft project with your family or friends you live with is a good alternative! Watching a tutorial on Youtube and having a contest is a fun way to get everyone really into it! (spoiler alert, @uricampusrec has virtual art classes for finals week)

  • STAY ACTIVE!

With all this time there are NO excuses! The weather is getting nicer too so even if it’s as simple as going for a walk, that’s okay! I know a lot of people (like me) are very dependent on the gym environment for motivation, so this is a great way to test yourself. There are so many at-home workouts posted that require no equipment. Campus Rec is also starting to do a few live stream classes a week, so check out the IMLeagues app!
