As we approach the middle of the semester, midterms are right behind. On top of everything this year has thrown at us, it’s understandable if you feel like it’s too much to handle, but I’m telling you right now:
you got this.
When I get overwhelmed with school, I remind myself that yes, right now can be a lot to handle, but I am going to be so proud of myself at the end of this semester, or even when I graduate. It always helps me when I think of things more long term.
Also, you have to remember that you are not alone. There are a variety of resources URI offers to help you through these stressful times. Here are three resources that you should be taking advantage of as a student here at URI:
I am currently in my senior year of college, and I just found out about the counseling center. It is FREE for URI students. They offer mental health counseling for those struggling with the time of COVID-19 and general mental health counseling. They have something for everyone: group and one-on-one services. Don’t be embarrassed either – they are here to help you.
Business hours: M-F 8:30am-4:30pm
After hours hotline is available 24/7

AEC (Academic Enhancement Center):
The AEC is the reason I passed precalculus, which was honestly a miracle. Jokes aside, the AEC is offering academic support both virtually and in-person. They offer tutoring services for all subjects, too, making it a great resource for students.
One of the best stress-relievers is working out and being active. URI Campus Recreation offers a variety of ways to stay active this semester. You can reserve a spot at the gym or sign up for a group workout class. Luckily we offer both indoor and outdoor classes, as well as virtual yoga. Also, something many people don’t know about Campus Recreation is that they offer well-being coaching and group guided meditation practices.
Reaching out to people when you need help can be scary, but just know, these services are a no-judgement zone. Getting the help you need is so important during times of stress, whether it be mental or academic.

Hi! I’m Lisa, a senior at URI getting my degree in public relations. I have lived in Rhode Island my whole life and decided to continue my education here. I am excited to be working with URI Campus Recreation this semester. With everything going on in 2020, it has sparked my passion for health and wellbeing. During these hard times, I find it’s easy to get into a rut, but I have tried my best to stay positive and focus on what makes me happy. I try to be outdoors as often as I can. I love going to the beach, biking, and just and enjoying the warm weather while I can.”
