Biography

María Shuckerow has been teaching Spanish language courses at URI for 15 years as an instructor and lecturer. Previously, I taught Spanish at the high school and adult education levels in RI public schools. Also , she taught mathematics at the Inter-American University and Computer Science at Colegio Ponceño, both located in Ponce, Puerto Rico.

As an educator, her areas of interest include improving student’s language acquisition and academic success. She contribute to the Academic Enhancement Center initiatives for first year experience and retention. In addition, she works on programs within the Languages Department to promote foreign language honors and minor programs that help students be better prepared and more competitive in their careers and the job market. Over the course of her career, she has become an advocate for first-year college student retention. She works with teachers, administrators and student support services to provide the most supportive environment for students to be academically successful.
