Research

Susana de los Heros has done extensive research in the area of Spanish sociolinguistics and pragmatics. She has been particularly interested in uncovering (a) how language ideologies of Spanish emerge, are reproduced and impact educational settings and (b) how discursive strategies are employed in the construction of professional and gender identities. Her publications include the books Utopía y realidad (Vervuert/Instituto de Estudios Peruanos, 2012) and Fundamentos y modelos del estudio pragmático y socio-pragmático del español (GUP 2012, coedited with Mercedes Niño- Murcia). Her most recent article is “Teaching with and about Humor in the L2 Spanish Classroom”, 2018. Currently, she is exploring the construction of bilingual identities in the US media and on how institutional discourse manifests in the medical sphere.
