How to Apply to URI’s Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) Program
The BLA program at URI is highly competitive, admitting only 20 students per year due to accreditation limits on faculty and facilities. Students undergo two key admissions reviews during the program:
1. Admission to Lower-Division Design Studios (Sophomore Year)
- Freshmen complete prerequisite courses in their first year.
- Apply by March 1 of freshman year with a letter of intent, transcripts, and drawing samples (if available).
- Admission requires a minimum 2.5 GPA, at least 24 credits earned, and no grade below C in LAR courses.
- About 75% of seats go to incoming freshmen; remaining spots open to transfers.
- Applications are reviewed in March; summer grades are considered as soon as available.
2. Admission to Upper-Division Design Studios (Junior Year)
- Limited to 20 students per year.
- Requires submission of a portfolio and current transcripts.
- Eligible applicants include current LAR 244 students, returning students, and transfer students from other accredited programs with comparable coursework.
- Transfer applicants must be admitted to URI and submit their materials by the last week of February before the fall semester.
