Landscape Architecture Alumni Advisory Council

The Landscape Architecture Alumni Advisory Council provides guidance, professional insight, and connection to

support the ongoing success of the undergraduate Landscape Architecture program at the University of Rhode Island. Formed in 2025, the Board brings together alumni representing a range of professional pathways and experiences within the discipline.

What the Advisory Council Does
The Council helps the department:

Alum Patrick McGuire, RLA and Founding Principal of Activitas, reviews the work of LAR student Mia Jenkins.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, emerging practices, and employer expectations
  • Strengthen connections between alumni and current students
  • Support student learning through panels, critiques, reviews, and mentoring opportunities
  • Increase program visibility within the professional community
  • Identify internship and job opportunities that may benefit students

Membership
The Council is composed of approximately seven alumni who serve one-year renewable terms. Members participate on a voluntary basis and are invited for their commitment to the program and the profession.

Expectations
Advisory Council members:

  • Attend one virtual meeting each semester (about one hour)
  • Participate in 1–2 optional student engagement activities during the academic year
  • Provide insight and feedback on program needs, industry changes, and areas of opportunity
  • Help share program news and events with professional networks

The Council serves in an advisory role and is not a fundraising or governance body. Its primary contributions are insight, experience, and connection.
