Revitalizing the Seekonk River Henderson Bridge Corridor
Fall 2018
The LAR 444 studio focused on designing Henderson Bridge replacement options. Working with the Seekonk Riverbank Revitalization Alliance and the cities of East Providence and Providence, the undergraduate/graduate studio of landscape architecture students analyzed conditions on the Henderson Bridge and Expressway, along the banks of the river and other areas abutting the river and its communities. Students also held a public workshop before developing design concepts based upon what they discovered through their process.
Four teams designed river crossings for pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers, they proposed green bridges, a mixed-use boulevard, riverbank restoration, green infrastructure, a nature center, housing, parks and more. Following project completion, their work was presented at the City offices in Providence.
