Student group The Coastal Society holds kayak beach cleanup

On Saturday morning, URI’s chapter of The Coastal Society (TCS) ran a successful kayak trip and beach clean-up at Narragansett Town Beach in Narragansett, RI. Over thirty volunteers – including TCS members, alums, and friends and family – kayaked down the nearby Narrow River towards Town Beach where we picked up 30 pounds of trash. For the second consecutive year, we were fortunate to partner with the Narrow River Preservation Association and Narrow River Kayaks to get us up and down the river safely (and to pick up some litter in the salt marshes along the way!). A small but mighty group of two began the clean-up earlier in the morning, starting at the south end of the beach. The kayakers started at the north end, and after meeting in the middle we tallied up our trash, enjoyed a quick, cold dip, and rode the flood tide home.
