Research: Coastal resilience and climate adaptation
Background: B.S. Atmospheric Science, Minors in Geography & EHC, University at Albany SUNY

Profile:

Emily is originally from Mystic Connecticut and grew up boating in Fishers Island Sound. Her experience on the water in all kinds of weather, especially storms, and the coastal hazards they produced sparked her interest in meteorology. She attended the University at Albany where she received her B.A. in Atmospheric Science and two minors, one in Geography and the second in Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security, and Cybersecurity. While at SUNY Albany, Emily interned with Weather Routing Inc. in upstate NY, assisting with weather forecasting and routing for the Cargo Division. This turned into a full-time position after graduation in 2020, where she worked as a forecaster for the Yachting Division. Since completing her undergraduate studies Emily has worked for AmeriCorps in both Connecticut and Cape Cod (ACC) where she has provided hands-on science education and outreach to the public. This experience helped her to fall back in love with weather and has prompted her to pursue a career in either the public sector or advising the public sector on climate adaptation strategies. Her work with ACC assisting conservation agents introduced her to the public sector and ultimately inspired her to pursue graduate school. Emily is interested in using applied science to bridge the gap between science and communities to support the development of climate adaptations, coastal resilience, and weather preparedness.
