Profile:

Skye grew up in the small fishing community of Gouldsboro, Maine. A childhood spent exploring the coastline and listening to fishermen’s stories sparked her interest in the marine environment, and prompted her to pursue her undergraduate degree in Marine Science at the University of Maine, Orono. While there, Skye spent her summers working as a deckhand and naturalist onboard a puffin and sightseeing tourboat in Bar Harbor. Through her work she educated people from around the world on topics such as local wildlife, marine science, conservation, and history. Through her interactions with passengers she developed a passion for science communication. Skye completed her bachelor’s degree in 2024, receiving high honors on her undergraduate thesis which focused on tourism motivated by puffins in Maine. Her desire to further her understanding of the relationships between marine stakeholder groups led her to the University of Rhode Island where she is now pursuing her M.A. in Marine Affairs. Her research interests focus on information sharing and communication between marine stakeholders. She hopes to help other small New England communities tackle marine issues surrounding renewable energy, fisheries, and storm impact management by promoting knowledge sharing between groups.

In her free time, Skye enjoys exploring the outdoors, especially when it involves getting out on the water. She believes that you are never too old to go tide pooling and can sometimes be found singing sea shanties.
