Introduces interdisciplinary research design and methods in marine affairs.
Familiarity with methods of inquiry is critical for research professions, but it is also important for resource management and policy making. Not only does research provide a means for increasing knowledge, many management and policy decisions hinge on research findings. This course introduces students to the philosophical issues involved in collecting and analyzing information about the world, as well as some nuts-and-bolts of qualitative and quantitative methods. In addition to discussing relevant literature, the course will provide opportunities for students to develop their own research ideas. This course is geared towards research of social aspects of marine, coastal, and other environmental management issues.
