Advanced applications of quantitative methods in marine affairs.

The statistics course for the Marine Affairs graduate program provides students with a practical foundation in statistical analysis tailored to real-world ocean and coastal applications. The course begins with core concepts such as data types and exploratory data analysis, and progresses to quantitative inferential methods including simple and multiple linear regression, ANOVA, and logistic regression. Students develop applied programming skills using R statistical software, working with datasets grounded in marine affairs contexts, particularly fisheries science. The course also incorporates a focused module on data ethics, emphasizing responsible data use. The course incorporates programming assignments, short online quizzes, and two data analysis projects to test understanding of the material.
